Obituary of Anna Avalone Malinowski

Anna Avalone Malinowski, age 93 of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family.  Born in Vietri Sul Mare, Province of Salerno, Italy on January 30, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Margherita Avalone.  At a very young age, Mrs. Malinowski’s father taught her how to bake bread while working in her family’s bakery in Italy.  Immigrating to the U.S. in 1956 and settling in Bridgeport, she put her perfected baking and cooking skills to use.  Mrs. Malinowski worked as a bread baker for the former Fusco’s Bakery, then a pizza baker at Paul’s Pizza, formerly of East Main St., Bridgeport.  She then worked as a baker and chef for the original Huntington Inn and remained through its transition to Tony’s Huntington Inn of Huntington Turnpike, Bridgeport.  Mrs. Malinowski was proud to be John Vazzano’s first employee when he opened Vazzy’s Restaurant on Broadbridge Ave., Bridgeport.  Her recipes and Italian cooking contributed to the great success of the restaurant. Mama’s rollatini, mama’s eggplant, mama’s meatballs and her famous tripe dish can be found on the menus to this day.  Several photos of Mrs. Malinowski hang on the walls of Vazzy’s where she cooked and baked for over 10 years, until the time of her retirement in 2007 at the age of 79.  She is survived by her devoted children, Anthony (JoAnn) Malinowski of Easton, Grace (Roger) Borgognone of Bridgeport, John Malinowski of Cave Creek, AZ, Emilio Malinowski of Derby, Luigi Malinowski of Hamden, and Margaret Ann (Anthony) Rodrigues of Shelton; cherished grandchildren, Lauren Malinowski of Easton, Roger Borgognone of Bridgeport, Anthony Borgognone of Shelton, Christopher Malinowski of Chandler, AZ, Austin Malinowski of Chandler, AZ, Rebecca Hernandez of Bridgeport, Rachel Malinowski of Shelton, Alyssa Malinowski of Norwalk, Daniella Chamble of Bridgeport, and Samantha Bernardo of Shelton; Great-grandchildren, Melvin Hernandez III of Bridgeport, Liam Hernandez of Bridgeport, Logan Hernandez of Bridgeport, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by an infant daughter, a sister and two brothers.  Mrs. Malinowski will be long remembered for her tireless work ethic, her special love for her family and forever will be the cornerstone of her family. Funeral services will take place on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM, from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Dr., Ansonia, at 11:00 AM.  Entombment will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, prior to mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
