Barbara Nette

Obituary of Barbara Ann Nette

On Thursday, August 1, 2019, Barbara Ann (Smith) Nette, loving mother and “mama,” passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Barbara was born July 21, 1927 to the late Harry and Margaret (Hubbard) Smith and spent much of her childhood growing up in Stamford.  On May 18, 1945, she married her love and late husband, Joseph “Bud” Nette.  Together, they raised their three daughters in Fairfield, CT and she later resided in Oxford. Despite health struggles over the past three years, even when the words didn’t always string together quite right, Barbara could always tell you how much she loved her family.  She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Terri DeProfio and her husband Carl, of Shelton; Carol Brouard and her husband Rock, of Oxford; and Spring Wyatt and her husband Bruce, of Oxford.  She was everyone’s “Mama” but was especially loved by her grandchildren: Carl DeProfio (and wife Julie), Brian DeProfio (and wife Sydney), Matthew DeProfio, Laura O’Toole (and husband John), Bill and Michelle Szabo, Celina Brouard, Jessica Bursell (and husband Matthew) and Ryan Wyatt (and wife Jodi).  She also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren whom she adored.  She was very excited to hear the news of number 16 coming this November, too. Barbara had a passion for life and her faith.  She was very proud to serve at St. Joseph (Shelton) and St. Thomas (Oxford) Churches as a Eucharistic minister for many years. She also worked at People’s Bank for over twenty years until she retired in her late 70s.  Her love for animals was immeasurable and she could always be seen with a little four legged friend or two nearby.  Never without her apron, she was often found in the kitchen making her family famous apple pie or spaghetti sauce.  There was always room at her dinner table and enough food to feed an army.  No one ever left Mama’s without a full belly.  She also loved to garden and her perfect blooms were proof.  She had a green thumb that was unmatched.  Barbara was always good for a one in a million story and will be remembered for her kind heart, selflessness and compassionate spirit. Barbara was predeceased by her two brothers, Alton and Stanley Smith.  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Church in Shelton at 11:00AM.  Interment will follow at Huntington Lawn Cemetery, Shelton, CT.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Companion Pet Rescue 522 N George’s Hill Rd Southbury, CT 06488 and/or forevermorgans@hotmail.com.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
