Obituary of Elizabeth Mary Burns

Elizabeth Mary Badarick Burns (Betty) Our beautiful and loving wife, mother and Nana was called to heaven on January 10, 2017. She was an angel here on earth, and now she will watch over us in heaven. Betty, known affectionately to everyone as Nana, was born on April 15, 1929 in Stamford, CT to the late Michael and Matrona Badarick, where she lived prior to moving to Ansonia and raising her family. She is survived by her wonderful husband of 67 years, James F. Burns of Seymour, who will miss her dearly. Nana was the loving and proud mother to Thomas John Burns (Mary Ellen) of Newborn, GA, James Frederick Burns (Nancy) of Shelton, CT, Patricia Jean Biga (Stanley) of Orange, CT, Melanie Ann Gramesty (John) of Oxford, CT and Robert Michael Burns of Somers, CT. She is also survived by her grandsons, Jeffrey Joseph Biga of Orange, CT; James Alexander Burns of West Palm Beach, FL; Matthew George Gramesty of Oxford, CT and Eric Michael Mau and Evan Matthew Mau of Longmeadow, MA, and her one and only granddaughter Kristen Elizabeth Puglisi (Mario) of Orange, CT. She also leaves her cherished great-grandson, Joseph Thomas Puglisi of Orange, CT, dearest nephew, Michael Barney of Stamford, CT and many other nieces and nephews. Betty leaves her loving sister, Anne Zuraw of Ansonia, CT, sisters-in-law, Kay Badarick of The Villages, FL, Stella Burns of Stamford, CT and especially Joyce Barney of Stamford, CT, who she cherished dearly. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law Alicia Stanton Burns; brothers, Michael and Peter Badarick; sisters, Mary Badarick, Millie DiMauro (Zoddie), Tillie Student (Michael), Helen Skodien (Walter), Janice Dorus (James) and brothers-in-law Nicholas Zuraw and Robert Gordon Burns. Nana loved to cook and bake, but she had the ultimate sweet tooth for all desserts. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles but playing card games with her family, even though she was dubbed “the cheater” was her favorite. Nana had an unconditional love for her family. She enjoyed holidays, family traditions and making memories that her family will hold close to their hearts always. Our family was blessed to have an incredible woman in our lives and even though our hearts are broken, we will take comfort in the fact she will be with us forever. Please meet DIRECTLY at Church for a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating our Nana, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Holy Rosary Church, Father Salemi Dr., Ansonia, CT. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby, CT.
