Obituary of Frank Baranowsky, Sr.

Frank Baranowsky, Sr. age 91, of Shelton, beloved husband of the late Helen Plaskon Baranowsky, died peacefully on November 23, 2016 at Shady Knoll Health Center, Seymour. Born in Shelton, CT on November 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Theodore and Anastazia Kolodiychyk Baranowsky. Mr. Baranowsky attended Bullard Havens Vocational Technical School and was a lifelong resident of Shelton. He was a proud and decorated U.S. Army Veteran of WWII serving in Central Europe and the Rhineland; he was awarded the Purple Heart, EAME Campaign, Good Conduct, World War II Victory, and American Campaign Medals. Mr. Baranowsky worked as a carpenter in private construction and for the State of CT at the former Laurel Heights and Fairfield Hills Hospitals for many years until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, American Legion Sutter-Terlizzi Post #16 of Shelton, American Russian Citizen Club and a lifelong member of Three Saints Orthodox Church of Ansonia. He is survived by his cherished daughters; Janet (Peter) Hershman and Sharon (Nicholas) Biela Filipowich; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his devoted wife of 66 years, he was predeceased by son, Frank Baranowsky, Jr.; daughter, Arlene Baranowsky Kaleta; brothers, Nicholas and Peter Baranowsky; and sisters, Mary Samoska, Anne Cassidy, Stephania Snell, and Esther Diasio. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, November 29, at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Funeral Service will be held in Three Saints Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Avenue, Ansonia at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.
