Obituary of Joshua A. Hansen

Joshua “Josh” Hansen, age 38 of Ansonia, suddenly and unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital. Born in Derby on April 17, 1978, he was the son of Larry D. (Florence) Hansen and Laura Thomas and her former spouse, Dwayne Thomas. Josh was a lifelong Ansonia resident, attended public schools and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1996. He worked as a landscaper for Cutting Edge Landscaping for over 10 years and for Zani’s Pizza in Ansonia making and delivering pizzas. He loved the outdoors! He enjoyed hiking with his dad, playing horse shoes, and all sports; he especially enjoyed watching his brothers Ryan and Alex play football at Ansonia and Yale. He was often found goofing around with his nieces and nephews or being a perch for his numerous feathered friends (cockatiels). Josh and his beloved companion, Elizabeth Alvarez, experienced their greatest joy this past August when their son Isaiah Christopher Hansen arrived 14 weeks early. Josh lovingly embraced his new role as a father; he visited Isaiah daily in hospitals during his first 9 months and diligently learned how to provide the necessary medical care so that Isaiah could come home. In those moments, especially while donning matching outfits, Josh wore a smile that lit up the world. In addition to his parents, beloved companion, and son, he is survived by his brothers, Jeremiah (Maria) Hansen, Ryan Thomas, Alex Thomas, Carnell Thomas, and Antone Wheeler; his sisters, Melissa Thomas and Lavera Thomas; as well as his Uncle Jim and Aunt Jessie, and many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Isaiah Hansen and maternal grandparents Jim and Joanne Budkus. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 10:00 to 1:00 pm at the Seymour Evangelical Baptist Church, 104 Mountain Rd., Seymour. A service celebrating Josh’s life will take place immediately after at 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will be private.
