Obituary of Barbara Ann Nolan

Barbara Ann Nolan, age 85 of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Anthony J. Nolan, died peacefully on June 2, 2024, in the comfort of her home, with her family by her side.  Born in Bridgeport on May 24, 1939, she was the daughter of the late George S. Gourley, Sr. and Florence Quick Gourley.  Mrs. Nolan was raised in Bridgeport and was proud of her Bridgeport roots.  Initially, she worked as an inspector for Norden Systems and was then employed as a supervisor- inspector for the former Summagraphics Company of Faifield & Seymour for over twenty years, until the time of their relocation. At that time, she then worked the deli counter at the Shelton Stop & Shop, a job she truly enjoyed well into her retirement years.  A resident of Ansonia since 2006, Mrs. Nolan would take her daily walk to the corner convenience store for a scratch-off ticket.  Together with her husband, she made many enjoyable trips to Las Vegas and to the Mohegan Sun Casino.  Mrs. Nolan was an avid reader, loved the challenge of a good crossword puzzle and was often entertained by TV crime shows.  She was a fabulous cook and her famous meatloaf was nothing short of legendary! Above all, her focus and priority were always her family. She will be long remembered for her special love for her family, especially her grandchildren.  Mrs. Nolan is survived by her devoted children, James P. Nolan, Sr. and his wife Linda and Margaret Rivera and her husband, Eric, all of Ansonia; sisters, Kim DuBail and Patricia Gourley, both of Seymour; brothers, George S. Gourley, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Fairfield and Gary Gourley and his wife Mimi of Trumbull; cherished grandchildren, Ashley Schultz of Milford, Erica Rivera of Bristol, James P. Nolan, Jr. and his wife, Rose of Branford and Matthew Rivera of Ansonia; cherished great-grandson, James P. Nolan, III of Branford; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband of 48 years, Mrs. Nolan was predeceased by a sister, Joan Deleon and brothers, Lawrence and Daniel Gourley.
