Obituary of Major Humphrey
HUMPHREY- Major Thomas Humphrey, Jr., age 78, beloved husband of Barbara J. Boockholdt Humphrey of Derby, died February 9, 2010 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Smyrna, GA on December 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Major T. and Bertha Mae Fawcett Humphrey, Sr. Mr. Humphrey was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War and graduated from Georgia Tech 1961 where he was a founding brother of the Delta Epsilon Fraternity. Following his lifelong passion for aviation, he applied his extraordinary IQ by working in many industrial engineering positions across the United States, including 18 years for Martin-Marietta on the F-16 fighter jet project and lastly, 10 years for Sikorsky Aircraft. He enjoyed fly fishing as well as teaching others the sport and excelled in bowling. He will be long remembered for his honesty and integrity by all who knew him. In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Donna Vieira and her husband, Richard of FL, Debra Anne Humphrey of Derby, and Christina Powers and her husband, David of FL; a sister, Anne Humphrey Helton of GA; nine cherished grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas Charles Humphrey, two brothers and three sisters. A Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 3:00PM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.
