Obituary of Franklin Ivan Benavides Pozo

Franklin Ivan Benavides Pozo, age 71, beloved husband of Charitas Bayas de Benavides of Ansonia, died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 11, 2022, at Yale-New Haven Hospital.  Born in Loja, Ecuador, on January 13, 1951, he was the son of the late Juan Marco Benavides and Digna Maria Pozo.  Mr. Benavides Pozo was a career serviceman with the Ecuadorian Army; he attained the rank of Sergeant Major of the Army and retired from active duty in 1998.  Mr. Benavides Pozo was an accomplished Chef and owned a restaurant in Cuenca - Ecuador, before immigrating to the U.S. in 1999.  His passion for cooking led to a position in the foods department of the Derby Shop Rite, where he was employed for ten years.  At home, his kitchen was a sacred place where countless family meals were prepared with love, and his family celebrated holidays full of joy. He will be long remembered for his adorable smile, love, and compassion for all those we're fortunate to meet him and his famous and delicious dishes, especially the Ecuadorian hornado and the special love he shared through his cooking.  In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Marjorie (John Bizzotto) Lobato of Ansonia, Juan Carlos (Maritza Benavides) Benavides, USN, currently serving in Bahrain, Gina Patricia Benavides (Fabian Duchimaza) of Ansonia, Marco (Marcia Campoverde) Benavides of Ansonia, Freddy Benavides of Ecuador Rosangela (Gerardo) Quesada of Ansonia; siblings, Eduardo Benavides, Digna Benavides and Ximena Benavides of Spain; his sisters, Marruth Benavides of Spain, Ruth Benavides of Ecuador; his brothers, William Benavides of Ecuador and Oswald Benavides of Canada; beloved grandchildren, Jonathan, Victor Hugo, and Vivian Lobato, Kaylhan and Jaydhel Benavides, Nathaly, Adrian, Dylan and Matias Duchimaza, Carolina, Mateo and Andrea Benavides, Cristian, Xavier, Erika and Fabricio Benavides, Daniela and Ivan Quesada; cherished great-grandchildren, Juliana Lobato Ashley and Daniel Benavides, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Benavides, and brothers, Milton and Edmundo Benavides.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 10 :00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com

 


FRANKLIN IVAN BENAVIDES POZO, de 71 años, amado esposo de Charitas Bayas de Benavides de Ansonia, murió en paz rodeado de su familia el 11 de junio de 2022 en el Hospital Yale-New Haven. Nacido en Loja, Ecuador el 13 de enero de 1951, era hijo del fallecido Juan Marco Benavides y Digna María Pozo. El Sr. Benavides sirvió en el Ejército ecuatoriano, donde obtuvo el rango de Sargento Primero del Ejército y se retiró del servicio activo en 1998. El Sr. Benavides fue un excelente Chef  y dueño de un restaurante en Cuenca - Ecuador, en 1999 decidió mudarse a los Estados Unidos con sun familia. Su pasión por la cocina lo llevó a ocupar un puesto en el  departamento de alimentos de Derby Shop Rite, donde estuvo empleado durante 10 años. En casa, su cocina era un lugar sagrado donde el preparaban con amor innumerables comidas familiares y se celebraban las fiestas llenas de alegría con su familia. Será siempre recordado  por su adorable sonrisa, amor y compasión por todos los que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerlo y sus famosos y deliciosos platos, especialmente el hornado ecuatoriano y por todos los momentos especiales que compartió a través de su cocina. Además de su esposa durante 52 años, le sobreviven:

Los servicios funerarios se llevarán a cabo el miércoles 15 de junio de 2022 a las 10:00 a. m. en Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. El entierro seguirá en el cementerio de Pine Grove, Ansonia. Los familiares y amigos pueden llamar a la funeraria el martes 14 de junio de 2022 de 4:00 p. m. a 7:00 p. m.
