I am so sorry that our Pastor at Faith United Methodist Church passed away so soon.
MaryEllen and the Rest of the Family I send you all my condolences. May the Lord be With all of you at this time of need.
MaryEllen, I was at Faith Church on Friday evening and I was sitting behind you in the church. I have been a member of the church all my life and the little bit that I talked to him the few times I heard him preach were at Funerals. I'm sorry I couldn't make it for the Calling hours.
In Sympathy,
Karen Haury

I remember, in gratitude, Pastor Jim who directed our "virtual" Easter Retreat in 2001. I was an add-on from UMC Branford, but Pastor Jim made me feel comfortable, at home with the rest of the group. I so valued his warmth and care for each of our spiritual journeys during that pandemic Easter. It was a very hard time, but Pastor Jim made it easier with prayer, and deep understanding.. I thank God for those moments we shared with him. Mrs. Midgley and family my deep sympathy and a prayer for God's grace to cover you and ease you. The Lord bless you and keep you. Janice Samoeil

Pastor Jim was Father Jim -- or just "Jim" -- to me during his time at St.Joseph Church in Brookfield. Though some two decades have passed, I remember him clearly as a person who wore both his faith and his heart on his sleeve. Many were the times he would turn back from the podium after giving his sermon and there would be tears in his eyes. His love of God and God's people were that deep and that personal. My friend, may the love of God you shared so freely be your rest for all eternity.

My deepest sympathy to all of you. My son Charlie and Brittany were at SJS together, so we were there when Jim was, he profoundly touched my life. I was so happy when I heard that he joined your family and added 1 more, he so deserved that happiness and joy as I am sure you all did too.
Reading these memorials took me back. I realized that I was one of many grateful people and too, hold and tell a eulogy story at a particularly tragic overdose death of a mother with 2 young children. It was 2 days before Christmas, and he had all the young children sit with him on the steps of the alter. He told a Christmas story about a dad, son, and a bird. in the cold, snowy night..... Moral being that sometimes you just can't find a way to follow the light of Christ. To the adults, who mourned but were also hurt and angry, he said that while she couldn't find the light to help herself that she could now help all of us to find it and follow the light.
I realized this AM that the last time told was this story the day Jim passed, truth. Jim will always hold a special place in my heart and in God's eyes. And he is with you now. Rest in Peace, Jim.

My husband, children and I send our deepest love and healing light to Jim's family during this very difficult time. We were blessed to have Jim in our lives for guidance, laughter and good counsel over the past 2 years. We will never forget the kindness, tenderness and honesty we received from this humble and gentle human being. Not a day will go by when he is not thought of and missed. Jim, we miss you!

I never met Pastor Midgley in person. He led a virtual Lenten retreat that I attended. This retreat was on zoom because of the pandemic. I learned so much from him during this time. I was blessed to have been touched by his presence. May he rest in the arms of Jesus.

I am so sad to hear this news, my deepest condolences to the Midgley family. Jimmy walked over to my house one day in 1967 looking for someone to play with. He had my young self in stitches telling funny stories and jokes, and doing impersonations of 1960s personalities including a spot-on Paul Lynde. A couple years later he had perfected Flip Wilson's Geraldine Jones, which he would use from his Little League catcher's position to throw off the concentration of opposing batters(including me) just before the pitch was delivered. Difficult to hit while trying to hold back laughter! Many years later, at my dad's funeral service, Pastor Jim came with his son to pay his respects, and delivered an impromptu eulogy that had the entire room laughing and crying at the same time, and which my family still talks about with an almost mystical reverence. That was in 2018. It had been years since I'd seen him, but after a moment it seemed as if no time had passed at all. I thanked him, gave him a tearful hug, and that was the last time I saw him. For what he did for my family on that difficult day, I owe a debt of gratitude that I cannot fully articulate nor ever repay. Rest in peace Jimmy.

Pastor Jim was with us for my husband's funeral service in April. We had never met, yet everyone there thought he had known us forever. I had such positive feedback about him, I was compelled to write and let him know. My most sincere sympathy to the Midgley family.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Jim and I were childhood friends. I have great memories of growing up with him in Huntington until I moved away in high school. We stayed in touch through college then lost touch. But he was one of those friends that I still get close to in spite of time and distance. May you all be well and cherish his memory.

I am heartbroken by this news. I met Jim when he was a seminarian. He ran the youth group at St. James for 2 summers. I was a freshman at ND Fairfield. We wrote when he was in Rome. I went to his ordination and he used to pop in the card store when my mom and I worked. When I was about 19, Jim gave me some excellent advice. But I was 19 and I knew everything so I didn’t take that advice until I was about 35. But when I did, it completely changed the course of my life. Forever grateful God brought him into my life. Now I’m a seminarian and I will carry what I learned from just being around him into my ministry.

I met Jim when I was a student at ND. We went on a field trip to visit churches in NY and he was a chaperone. Our group, led by Jim, somehow got separated from the rest of the group & couldn't find them for a while. It was so funny! We were pen pals while he was studying in Rome & remained friends when he returned. We crossed paths whie he worked for DCF and I for New Britain P.D. He officiated my marriage. While going thru divorce I had to attend mandatory parenting class. We'll, you can imagine my shock when who of all people walked in and introduced themselves as the instructor! In true Jim fashion, he made a funny comment- I was there at the beginning and I'm here at the end! He was a great human being with the best sense of humor. I'm sorry I lost touch with him over the past few years. Call that friend you haven't seen for a while. Don't wait.
