I worked with Dave for 30 years at Hamilton (now Collins Aerospace) in Windsor Locks, CT. He was the paragon of Quality Engineers. No matter the task, if Dave was working it--it was going to be performed to the requirements. While accomplishing his tasks at work he was friendly, professional, intelligent, and always had a great sense of humor. When he spoke of his Lehigh days he was so earnest and passionate, especially with respect to his fraternity and his fraternity brothers--and most of the stories he told from this time period in his life were absolutely hilarious! For the better part of two decades, Dave, Jim, John and I would meet up in Springfield, MA for Red Rose Pizza, often followed with a few fantastic German beers at the Student Prince; great times! Dave would also meet me and my three kids at Red Rose for pizza several times a year. My kids would marvel at how passionately and methodically Dave would eat his large pizza (carefully folding each slice in half along the long axis prior to consumption)--and if you're familiar with Red Rose--you know that their large pizza is BIGGER than everyone else's Party Size Pizza! Dave loved getting to know my kids over the years, and genuinely took an interest in what they were learning, what sports they were playing, and their general likes and dislikes outside of school; he loved kids! He left us too early, and will be greatly missed; but his general candor, enthusiasm, college stories, giving spirit, friendship, and sense of humor will remain with me always! RIP Dave--Kevin J.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave for fifteen years. Dave sat next to me in our quality engineering group. His humor, quick wit, and incredible memory for trivia was, to me, awesome.
After my retirement, Dave and I enjoyed occasional lunches at his new favorite pizza restaurant, Mondo’s, in Middletown. In fact, we were very much looking forward to getting together for lunch sometime this summer.
My sincere sympathy, thoughts, and prayers are with you all. I will miss you Dave.

My name is Jim, and I am here with my friend John. I worked with Dave for 23 years at Hamilton, and was shocked to hear of his passing. John Collins, Kevin J, and I would go to red rose, and watch Kevin and Dave devour a large pizza. We affectionally referred to them since then as the Vikings. Keven, John and I will miss him so much. We will not make it to the wake as it is 1 and 1/2 hours away, but we will be making donations to the animal shelter referenced in his obituary in his memory.

Brian and Elaine - I'm very sorry for your loss. Dave was one of those special people we should all be so lucky to meet, know, and grow up with, notably in the high school and college years. Dave, Larry Palmieri, and I formed a close-knit wrecking crew that could demolish a large pizza and a six-pack (each!), not just once in a while but multiple times every week. Lots of good humor and conversations over those "meals" along with Ping-Pong and ballgames on the TV in Larry's basement, which served as headquarters for "The Rut". Dave was the smartest of the bunch, especially in math and languages, and it took me decades to finally catch on to crossword puzzles as he had been doing for so long. Dave, tell Larry I said "hi", and I'll be joining you two for a reunion one of these days - I got the first round....

I'm so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. I worked in Quality with him for many years, and played basketball and volleyball with him in the Hamilton leagues. His dry sense of humor was so typical of an engineer, it was a great group that we worked with. We loved working at Hamilton, and yes getting the large Second Poquonock massive pizza slices. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to Brain and Elaine. I’m sure you don’t remember me but I met you, Dave, snd your parents at Burlingame State Park camping in the late 60’s- early 70’s. I was the blonde from MA , camping in a school bus with friends. I had a huge crush on Dave. I still remember the fun we had and Dave’s sense of humor. We all had a blast roaming the camp ground and doing silly things.
I’ve thought of Dave over the years especially when I hear the song “ Treat Her Like a Lady” on oldies station. , which was the song playing back then. Sounds like Dave was as special today as he was back then. My sincere condolences again.

The news of Dave' s passing was quite the shock. I was working at Hamilton Standard as a QE when Dave was hired. We wondered how this youngster was going to fit in with the veterans. Dave quickly melded-in with the group. Dave and Johnny became the foundation of the materials review crib. Their knowledge and helpful attitude was invaluable to the QE's on the line. Dave was always quick with a joke or pun and the Pizza lunches were the best way to decompress from the tension of work. He did like his Pizza and Beer. Dave's stories college days and the single life stories were entertaining and hilarious. I remember a party at my house after one of the team left the company. Dave kept us all in fine spirits and made the occasion a special time. When it was my time to leave, he was quick to offer a helping hand. He was very interested on my almost new snow blower and was thrilled when I presented the blower to him for all his support. Win-win for all.
I was hoping to return to CT from CA when I retire and resurrect the friendships I made so long ago. It won't be the same without the star player at bat!
Miss you Dave - Gary Francis

My heart is very heavy learning about Dave’s passing. He was a very close friend of mine for many years while we worked together at (the former) Hamilton Sundstrand/UTC. Dave was the consummate lunch buddy, and would always find time to meet for lunch no matter what our crazy schedules were like. We would frequent Second Poquonock for huge grinders and 7-Eleven for Dave’s enormous Big Gulp drinks and after every lunch, I would wonder how we would get through the remainder of the workday after stuffing our faces! But then we would be back at it the next day (or whenever we could grab lunch). From time to time, Dave and I would also meet up for dinner at Red Rose Pizzeria (and those who knew Dave know all about his love for pizza!), where he would incredulously ask me every time why I could not possibly eat 20 slices of pizza and how I would “force” him to take the leftovers home with him for a “midnight snack.” He was SO silly! We stayed in touch for many years after I had moved onto other opportunities outside of UTC, and Dave would always poke fun at me for “jumping all over the place” while he remained a “lifer” in his QE position. I SO wish he had the opportunity to retire and truly enjoy life without having to worry about work after having devoted so many years to his career, but am convinced Dave stayed because he truly loved his job. I was just reading an e-mail from two years ago where he laid his tentative plans out to me to possibly retire in “two or three years” to go on and do something that would help out the community (Meals-on-Wheels, volunteering at a senior center, tutoring, etc.) and it made me think about just what a GOOD man he was. He always wanted to help out, give back, do good. In that e-mail, he jokingly told me we should get together sometime in the “next few years or so.” Unfortunately, we never had the opportunity to do so and I regret we didn’t. Life truly does fly by. I will miss Dave’s long witty e-mails that always took me forever to respond to and his sense of humor. He ALWAYS had the ability to make me laugh with his off-the-wall comments no matter what kind of day I was having. I literally could talk to Dave about any and everything and despite our different backgrounds and age gap, we just clicked. He was the best work bud, friend, confidante and advice giver, although he probably felt like I never listened to him because I tend to be a bit hard-headed. But I did always listen to Dave because he always listened to everything I said. He never forgot a thing! He’d bring up people or places or things from years’ past and would just make me laugh at his references. He was also so smart and knew so much, which is probably why I truly enjoyed all of our conversations. I used to joke with him that I couldn’t believe an Engineer could speak and write so well or have such an awesome command of the English language, but he absolutely did! Dave was definitely one of a kind; he was one of one. Although I am saddened about Dave’s passing, I know he would not want that. Instead, I will forever hold onto the great memories he and I shared during our times together and will fondly remember all of the laughs and fun times. Dave truly was the best of the best and I wish I had one more time to tell him so. I pray he is resting peacefully in paradise. My sincerest thoughts and deepest condolences are with Dave’s family during this difficult time.
