Obituary of Paul McLain
Paul Herbert McLain, age 89 of Ansonia, beloved husband of Norma (Schaible) McLain, entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Scranton, PA on September 14, 1931, he was the son of the late Howard and Ella (Hornbaker) McLain.
Paul was a lover of life and people. He was a lifelong member of St. Sebastian’s Social Club and Charter Hose Fire Company. He worked at Sikorsky Aircraft for 40 years. He was an extremely hard worker and outworked anyone a fraction of his age. Once he retired, he traveled to see more of the U.S. He was an avid bowler, card player, and camper. He enjoyed picking and canning tomatoes and planting his flower and vegetable gardens every summer. He could always be found working in his yard on his pond. He loved spending time with his family in his home state of Pennsylvania. Most importantly, Paul was there whenever someone needed him. His generosity and desire to help was inspiring. He made sure everyone was taken care of, and never put himself first. He was never afraid to humble himself by looking foolish in front of his peers if it meant getting a laugh or smile out of a child. He had the heart of a child and truly was the life of the party all the way up to his passing. Paul’s presence will be forever missed but will also be carried on through the love he poured into everyone that he interacted with.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, he was survived by daughters, Donna (McLain) Lonergan of Ansonia, Karen (McLain) Blanchard and husband, Keith of Seymour; sons, Keith McLain and JeanAnn of Seymour, and Mark McLain of Danbury; sisters, Maryjean VanBrunt, Myrtle Hannon and Carolyn Farling all of PA; and brothers, Melrose McLain and wife, Judy, and Bill McLain and wife, Darlene all of PA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Paul K. McLain; his brothers, Ralph McLain and Jack McLain; and sister, Ann McLain Williams.
