Obituary of Ciana E. Mila Piniella

Ciana Elvira Mila Piniella, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Yale New Haven Hospital on October 6, 2020.  Born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba in 1935, she made Connecticut her home during the last decade of her life to be closer to her daughter and cherished grandchildren.  She was the beloved wife of the late Ado Indo Sanz Sanchez, and the daughter of renowned Cuban journalist the late Pablo Mila Ortiz and Lilia E. Piniella Martinez.

Known for her big smile and genuine warmth, she was a treasured friend to many, both near and far.  Her caring nature and the abundance of love she so generously gave will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.  She is survived by her devoted daughter, Ciana Barrueco of Seymour, Connecticut; her brother, Pablo (Nancy) Mila Piniella of Florida; her four grandchildren, Albert (Julia) Barrueco of New York, Franklyn O. Barrueco of Connecticut, Lilia Sanz Gamez and Alejandro Sanz Gamez, both of Cuba; and two great-grandchildren, Parker James Barrueco and Ciana Camila Prevez.  Mrs. Mila-Piniella is now reunited with her late husband, as well as her predeceased son, Ado Sanz Mila, and son-in-law, Franklyn A. Barrueco.

Out of concern for the health and safety of friends and family resulting from the ongoing pandemic, services will be private.  Interment will eventually take place in Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, Cuba.  The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia is in care of the arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
