Obituary of Mercedes Vazquez
Mercedes Vazquez, age 81 of Derby, died peacefully at Griffin Hospital on October 4, 2020, surrounded by her family. Born in Carolina, Puerto Rico on September 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Candido Vazquez and Severiana Ramos.
Mrs. Vazquez was a dedicated mother and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She enjoyed puzzles, singing in church and cooking for her family, especially her famous pasteles. She will be long remembered for her special love for her family.
Mrs. Vazquez is survived by her devoted children, Rosa (Louis Rodriguez) Velez of Derby, Janet (Hector Vargas) Lugo of Florida, Lourdes Garcia of New Haven, and Dianne Rivera of Pennsylvania; Victor (Enid) Velez of Puerto Rico, Freddie (Ivonne Gonzalez) of Puerto Rico; 24 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughter, Carmen Maria Quiles, and son, Edmundo Torres.
Family and friends are invited to attend a walk through visitation at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Please be advised that all protocol, screening and social restrictions of the Covid-19 Pandemic will be exercised.
