Obituary of Daniel J. Hogan

Daniel J. Hogan 1924-2020 Family, faith and community is what empowered Dad for 96 and a half years. He passed Friday at the CT Hospice of Branford after a brief illness at St. Raphael’s. Born in New Haven, Dad was raised in Springfield, the Bronx and Hamden, He was a member of the greatest generation. A proud Army Veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following the war, Dad fell in love and married Mariette Gauvin of Hamden on May 28th, 1949. Before she passed last August 15th, they celebrated 70 plus years together along with their four boys and their families.The Railroad was Dan’s other family. Joining his father after the War on the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, dad became an electrician and rose thru the ranks to Assistant Superintendent during the transitions to Penn Central, Conrail and Metro North. Dad was also busy after work at home in Ansonia as a founding member of the Hilltop Hose Co., chairman of the parish council of Assumption Church, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus – 4th Degree. In his off time he enjoyed taking dancing lessons with mom, taking cruises and playing racquetball at the Ansonia YMCA. As we begin to celebrate his long life and contributions to everyone he encountered, we know he is reunited now with his parents, Daniel and Bridget Hogan, his brother John his sister Mary and their spouses.Dan leaves behind his cherished and proud sons David (Pat), Mark (Mary), John, and Kevin along with his 9 grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister-in law Jeannine Gauvin Saller (Bill), as well as nieces and nephews. A walk through visitation to celebrate Daniel’s life will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Please be advised that all protocol, screening and social restrictions of the Covid-19 Pandemic will be exercised. A Mass of Christian Burial, meeting directly at church, will be celebrated on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff Street, Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Assumption School, Ansonia.
