Professor Monks was an incredible teacher and helped me in countless ways with accounting. He was always a class I looked forward to because he was always able to keep it interesting and was able to relate to his students. Tom was a wonderful colleague at WCSU and, though from a different department, when I first arrived 13 years ago, he was one of the first to welcome me. Over the years I was fortunate to serve on school committees with him, discuss legal issues, and, most importantly, share conversations with him about family. He never passed by the office without stopping in for a quick chat or, at the least, to say hello. He was a man who stood for what he believed in and had more character and moral grounding than most people you meet in a lifetime. His sudden passing is a tremendous loss. May God bless him in eternal rest. My thoughts and prayers are with the Monks Family.

Professor Monks had a great impact on all his students including myself. He was always able to relate hard concepts through personal stories which really allowed us to connect not only to the subject but him as well. Just this summer in order to explain the concept of partnership agreements he told us a story about one of his sons and their experience shoveling snow one year. To make a long story short his son and friends didn't have an agreement in place before shoveling which led to some hurt feelings. It really brightened up a sometimes dull subject. He will be missed by all.

I was very happy when Tom and Susan became grandparents. Susan was excited from the first while Tom was excited but a little more reserved. Before we left campus for Covid -19 I saw Tom and asked about the baby. And, I saw a small smile come across his face. I teased him about it because I know that smile of a grandfather and that Tom's heart was captured. It truly saddens me that his grand child will not be able to fully know his grandfather.
