I had the privilege of being John’s friend over the past few years. I cherish that friendship. He was a true “salt of the earth” person. Tough on the outside, with a heart of gold on the inside, John would give you the shirt off his back and then offer to launder it for you. He told great stories and was funny, savvy, and highly intelligent. He knew had to navigate the world in a forthright yet soft-spoken manner that got results. A gentle force of nature, John was active every day I knew him until his health was strongly impacted. He is a real role-model for his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The void John’s left in the world can’t be filled. He has a space in my heart forever and I will miss him.
My sincerest condolences to the family he loved so dearly. This is such a loss for them.
