Obituary of Sergey Kowalsky

KOWALSKY- Sergey "Serge" Kowalsky, age 89 of Seymour, beloved husband of Olga Worobel Kowalsky, died May 22, 2009 at Griffin Hospital. Born in Shelton, on August 20, 1919, he was the son of the late Kostant and Helen Belka Kowalsky. Mr. Kowalsky was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII serving aboard an LST in the Pacific Ocean. He was a member of the Sutter-Terlizzi Post of the American Legion, Shelton. Mr. Kowalsky was an accomplished Tool & Die maker and was the co-owner of the C&S Tool Shop along with his brother-in-law, Casimir Piokowski. He then worked for the Gordon Rubber Co. for 15 years before his retirement in 1984. Mr. Kowalsky was an avid guitar player and member of the "Rodeo Ramblers" band, a local group that played area grills and performed a weekly radio show. He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and its Men's Club, the Russian-American Club of Shelton and the Ansonia, Shelton and Seymour Senior Centers. Mr. Kowalsky loved Maine and Cape Cod; fishing, gardening and enjoying the unspoiled outdoors where he taught his children and grandchildren to fish and garden. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his devoted children and their spouses, Cynthia Hinds and her husband, Robert of OH, Marsha Schuck and her husband, Edward of Seymour, Barbara Levine and her husband, Roger, of Seymour and Donald Kowalsky and his wife, Maryanne of Guilford; 8 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Kowalsky and sisters, Helen Cirkot and Irene Gaudio. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 9:15 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby.
