Obituary of Valeria Shingara

Valeria Shingara, age 99, of Oxford, beloved wife of the late Steven Shingara, died peacefully on April 21, 2020 (just days before her 100th birthday), at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. Born in Shelton on April 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Julia Dutka Owcarz. Mrs. Shingara was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, and remained deeply devoted to her strong faith throughout her life. Mrs. Shingara was an avid reader and enjoyed trips to the casinos with her nieces. In her later years, she found the greatest pleasure in her summer vacations at her favorite beachhouse in Rhode Island. At home in Oxford, she also enjoyed the peace of nature through the joy of plants and flowers, and birdwatching through her window. Mrs. Shingara will be long remembered for her special love and devotion for her family. She is survived by her devoted children, Steven Shingara and Valerie Shingara, both of Oxford and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Shingara was predeceased by a cherished grandson, Steven Michael Shingara; sisters, Helen and Julia Owcarz, Josephine Jabieski, Catherine Pilewski, Bertha Lechus and Anna Fournier; and brothers, John and Edward Owcarz.
