Obituary of Michael Pawlyk

Michael Pawlyk, age 93 of Ansonia, beloved husband of the late Helena Lypen Pawlyk, died peacefully on April 2, 2020 at the CT Hospice, Branford, following a cancer illness. Born in the Carpathian Mountain Village of Rychwald (present day Poland) on October 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna Shevchyk Pawlyk. Raised in Rychwald and a survivor of the Nazi labor camps of WWII, he immigrated to the United States in 1950 in search of the American Dream. He settled in Ansonia and worked as a leather crafter in the former Osman & Cheeseman Factory where he fashioned belts for the U.S. Military (a job he truly appreciated and loved!). Mr. Pawlyk would then work at the B.F. Goodrich Co., Housatonic Everfloat and lastly, retiring from the Spongex Co. of Shelton in 1991. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, enjoyed a good card game with his friends and will be remembered as a devoted family man. He is survived by his son, Michael A. Pawlyk of Ansonia; sisters, Mila and Tekla of Ukraine and nieces, Nadia (Misha) Kovaliv of Brooklyn, NY, Maria (Michael) Telep of Ansonia, Andrew (Beata) Lypen of Orange and Mary (Adam) Faass of Middletown; as well as many nieces and nephews in Ukraine. In addition to his wife Helena, he was predeceased by a son, Peter Pawlyk; sisters, Stefania, Maria and an infant sister, Tekla; and brothers, John, Peter, Stefan Pawlyk. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, all funeral services will be held privately. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
