Obituary of Martin A. Kevalis

Martin A. Kevalis, Sr., age 66, beloved husband of Lynn Fitol Kevalis of Ansonia, died peacefully on March 8, 2020 at Yale – New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in New Haven on January 29, 1954, he was the son of the late Anthony and Esther McGinnis Kevalis. Mr. Kevalis was raised in Ansonia and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1974. He worked for the family ice cream business and as a grounds keeper at Pine Grove Cemetery, prior to his 25 year employment at U.S. Surgical. He was a member of the Lemko and Slovak Clubs, enjoyed boating and taking pride in maintaining his manicured yard. In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by his devoted sons, Martin A. (Tricia) Kevalis, Jr. of Seymour and Justin T. Kevalis of Ansonia; sisters, Jean (Andrew) Saldamarco of GA and Joan McGinnis of CA; cherished grandchildren, Allie and A.J. Kevalis of Seymour; a special cousin, Grace Kewalis of Oxford; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his beloved canine companions, Max and Snoopy. Mr. Kevalis was predeceased by a son, John J. Kevalis; sister, Joyce Saldamarco; brothers, Anthony “Joe Joe” Kevalis & James McGinnis; and cousin, Joseph Kewalis. Funeral services will take place on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff St., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.
