Obituary of Barbara F. Cheney

Barbara Friss Cheney, age 84 of Cheshire, beloved wife of the late Raymond W. Cheney, died peacefully on July 21, 2018 at the Cheshire Regional Rehab Center, Cheshire.  Born in Hudson, NY on March 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Leland and Anna Frankel Friss.  Mrs. Cheney attended business school and worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Wolcottview Manor for many years.  Following her career at Wolcottview, she worked as a home health aide, providing compassionate and loving care to many who could not care for themselves. Mrs. Cheney’s primary passion was for God’s gentle creatures, whether it be her own pets, strays, feathered friends or wild animals, she inspired many to care and value the significance of their welfare.  She found peace in the outdoors; a quiet walk or a family picnic brought her great solace.  In her senior years, Mrs. Cheney was an avid reader, enjoyed bingo, as well as drawing and painting.  A resident of Cheshire since 2017, Mrs. Cheney previously resided in Seymour and Woodbridge, but was a Wolcott resident for most of her life.  She is survived by her daughters, Kim (Tom) Ferencz of Bethany, Nancy (John) Ruggeries and Linda (Michael) Chouinard, all of Waterbury; a sister, Kathleen Friss Stryscharz of Enfield; 7 cherished grandchildren and 3 cherished great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband,   Mrs. Cheney was predeceased by a son, Jon R. Cheney; a sister, Patricia Newnham; and a brother, Donald Friss.  A Memorial Mass (meeting directly at church), will be celebrated on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff St., Ansonia.  Interment will be private.  The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia is in care of arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodbridge Animal Control, 135 Bradley Rd., Woodbridge, CT 06525.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
