Obituary of Emma Powanda

POWANDA- Emma Powanda, age 96 of Orange, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2007 in the Birmingham Health Care Center, Derby. Born in Ansonia on June 4, 1911, she had lived at the family homestead in Orange most of her adult life. Ms. Powanda is the last surviving child of Charles and Anna Astriab Powanda and was predeceased by sisters, Elsie Powanda, Helen Flaherty, Mildred Kelly; and brothers, William Powanda, Joseph Powanda, John Powanda and Daniel Powanda. She is survived by nieces and nephews, William Powanda Jr., Edward Flaherty, Robert Flaherty, Kevin Flaherty and Cynthia Powanda. Ms. Powanda retired from the USM Fastener Group in Shelton. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church and active in the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary. A Mass of Christian Burial, MEETING DIRECTLY AT CHURCH, will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 AT 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Burial will immediately follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Church.
