Obituary of Raymond F. Mackowski

Raymond Francis Mackowski, age 90 of Ansonia, died peacefully on March 20, 2016 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Ansonia on November 7, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Amelia Halicki Mackowski. Mr. Mackowski was a lifelong Ansonia resident and was awarded Bachelor Degrees from Bryant University and Southern Connecticut State University. He completed his studies at the National Sales Training Institute of Fishers Island, NY. He worked as self-employed real estate broker in the greater New Haven area while simultaneously managed the Mackowski Family Trust Enterprises. He was an employee of the World Courier Corp. of NY, where he traveled Europe extensively. Mr. Mackowski was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Sergeant in finance, stationed in New York City, and Keflavik, Iceland. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Church, Ansonia, where he was a member of the church council and choir. At Yale-New Haven Hospital, Mr. Mackowski volunteered his services for over 30 years. He belonged to the American Legion, Holy Rosary Council of Knights of Columbus, the Derby Historical and Kosciuszko Societies. Mr. Mackowski was the Treasurer of the Friends of the Historical Commission of Ansonia. An accomplished swimmer and hiker, he took great pride in meticulously maintaining his family homestead. A participant in the arts as a painter and metal sculptor, he exhibited and received honors for many of his works. Always concerned about other’s needs, he was a supporter of many organizations and his Alma Mater. A happy person by nature, he loved life and people and supported their accomplishments and pursuits. He is survived by his devoted nephews and niece, Richard (Joyce Clark) Mackowski of Ansonia, John Lavorgna of Seymour, Donald Mackowski of Hamden, Regina Shastokas of West Haven, as well as many other nieces and nephews; many great nieces and great nephews; and friend and neighbor, Myrtle Bartolotta of Ansonia. He was predeceased by sister, Isabelle Klik; and brothers, Alfred, Edward, Albert and Clarence Mackowski. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett St., Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will be in Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, March 28, 2016, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
