Obituary of Msgr. George Binkowski
BINKOWSKI-Monsignor George Binkowski, age 73 of Derby, entered into eternal rest on May 23, 2008 in Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Derby on June 29, 1934, he was the son of the late John and Mary Grabowsky Binkowski. Msgr. Binkowski was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a 1955 graduate of the University of Bridgeport with a Bachelors Degree and in 1967 earned a Masters Degree, both in Mechanical Engineering. He then worked for the Farrel Corp. as a Project Engineer for several years. In 1972 he graduated from the Catholic University of America with a Bachelors Degree in Theology. Monsignor received his Minor Orders in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ansonia in January, 1971; was ordained a Deacon in St. Basil Church, Stamford, June, of 1971 and was ordained a Priest on January 16, 1972 in St. Basil Church, Stamford. He was elevated to Monsignor in Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Fresh Meadows, LI, NY, in 1997. Monsignor was awarded the title of Chaplain of His Holiness by Pope John Paul II in 1992 and Cannon, Diocese of Stamford by Bishop Basil Losten in 2005. He served the Holy Ghost Parish of Brooklyn, NY as Asst. Pastor from 1972; Administrator 1972-1976 and as Pastor from 1976 to 1997. He served the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish of Fresh Meadows, NY, from 1997 to 2007. During his tenure within the Stamford Diocese, Monsignor served on the Board of Advisors of Holy Spirit Cemetery, Dean of the Brooklyn Deanery, Judge of Eparchial Tribunal, Superintendent of Schools and Consultor. He is survived by brothers, Paul Binkowski, of Derby, William and his wife Mary Ann Binkowski of Derby, John Binkowski and his wife, Martha of Southington; a sister, Sr. Anne (Katherine) Binkowski of Stamford, sister-in-law, Josephine Binkowski of Derby; 15 beloved nieces and nephews, as well as many cherished great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mary Mudry and her husband, Paul, Anna Petriw and husband, Steve, Julia and Helen Binkowski; a brother, Peter Binkowski; and a nephew Stephen Petriw. A Mass of Christian Burial, Celebrated by Most Reverend Basil Losten, Bishop Emeritus of Stamford, will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 10:00AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia, CT. Interment will directly follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby, CT. Monsignor George Binkowski will lay in repose on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church. A Panakhida Service will be held at 5:00 P.M. and a Priestly Parastas Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Flowers are to be respectfully omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts.
