Obituary of Olga H. Chirgwin
CHIRGWIN – Olga Halchak Chirgwin of Orange, age 93, beloved wife of the late Harry J. Chirgwin, died peacefully on December 2, 2014 at Yale New Haven Hospital with family by her side. She was born April 12, 1921 in Ansonia, daughter of the late Ignatius and Anna Groziak Halchak. Mrs. Chirgwin was a graduate of Ansonia High School and worked as a secretary for Southern Connecticut State University. A lifelong and devout member of Three Saints Orthodox Church where she was a past Board Member, taught Sunday school, was active in the “R” Club and Senior Group. In younger years, Mrs. Chirgwin shared many happy memories with her daughter as a Girl Scout Leader. An avid painter of portraits and landscapes, she was a founding member of the Orange Arts & Crafts Guild. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lynn Hvizd and her husband, Andrew Hvizd, III of Wallingford; grandson, Andrew J. (Jordon) Hvizd of Ontario, Canada; granddaughter, Sarah (Anthony) Sigel of Northford; great-grandchildren, Anthony Sigel, Jr., Jack Sigel (with whom shared Great-Grandma’s birthday), and Rylee Paige Hvizd; special caregiver and friend for many years, Melanie Grecula; and her best friend, Ruth Balnicki. In addition to her husband of 60 years, she was predeceased by brother, William Halchak. Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Three Saints Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia. Family and friends may call at 10:00 AM directly at church, prior to service. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
