Obituary of Sylvia Elizabeth Phelps
PHELPS- Sylvia Elizabeth Phelps, age 89, of Oxford, beloved wife of the late Clarence E. Phelps, died June 2, 2014 in her home following a sudden illness. Born in Bridgeport on July 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Sylvia DeVeau Riggs. Mrs. Phelps was a graduate of Central High School and a longtime resident of Stratford before moving to Oxford 34 years ago. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Sacred Book and Gift Shop of Fairfield. Mrs. Phelps was a member of the Ansonia Baptist Church and taught Ladies Bible Study at area churches for many years. A prayer warrior, she prayed for all in need and encourage many others to pray for those special intentions. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Deborah Matthews and her husband, Timothy of Oxford; cherished grandchildren, Eric Bondeson and his companion Jennifer of Waterbury, Amy Bondeson Boyce and her husband, Christopher of Newtown, Katy Bondeson Schneider and her husband, Douglas of Shelton and Ryan Bondeson of Oxford; great- grandsons, William and Jake Schneider of Shelton; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 69 years, she was predeceased by brothers, Grant E. Talbot, Milton Talbot and John T. Riggs; and a son-in-law, Earl William “Bill” Bondeson. . A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 1:30 PM in the Beacon Hill Evangelical Free Church, 371 Old Zoar Road, Monroe with the Rev. Dr. Richard Flashman and Rev. Terry Wilcox officiating. Interment will be private.
