Obituary of Paul Binkowski
Paul Binkowski, age 88, of Derby, died peacefully on August 13, 2013 following a brief illness. Born in Derby on May 10, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Mary Grabowski Binkowski. Mr. Binkowski was a lifelong resident of Derby and member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ansonia. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII where he served aboard B-24's and B-29's as a radio operator, mechanic and waist gunner. Following his military service, he was employed for many years with the Farrel Corporation as a roll grinder, until the time of his retirement. While working at Farrel's, Mr. Binkowski was instrumental in saving the life of a coworker for which he was awarded the Liberty Mutual's Lifesaver Medal. He was a member of the Farrell's Old Timer's Club and long remembered for his vegetable garden and vibrant sunflowers. He is survived by a sister, Sr. Ann (Katherine) Binkowski, MSMG of Stamford; a brother, William (Maura "Mary") Binkowski of Derby; 17 nieces and nephews including Alice Odoy and her husband, Edwin of Derby; many great nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Binkowski of Derby. In addition to parents, Mr. Binkowski was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Mary (Paul) Mudry, Anna (Stephen) Petriw, Peter Binkowski, Helen and Julia Binkowski, John (Martha) Binkowski, and Msgr. George Binkowski. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Ewa Bores, his longtime caregiver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM, in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Avenue, Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby.
