Obituary of Nancy Smith
Nancy A. Smith, age 96, of Derby, died peacefully on August 12, 2013, at the Gardener Heights Health Care Center. Born in Derby on November 11, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine Barna Dripchak. Ms. Smith was a graduate of Ansonia High School, Ansonia Business College and worked as a secretary for the U.S. Air Force in Washington D.C. and St. Louis, MO for over twenty years, until her retirement in 1981. She was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and volunteered as a mentor for Bradley Elementary School, Derby. Ms. Smith was a member of the Derby Historical Society, NARFE Federal Union, and the Ansonia and Derby Senior Centers. She is survived by a devoted niece, Doris Burns of Seymour; four nieces and four nephews; as well as many great nieces and nephews. Ms. Smith was predeceased by brothers, Paul, William and Michael Dripchak and a sister, Eva Brenia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia on Thursday, August 15, 2013. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Thursday morning prior to Mass from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Church Preservation Fund.
