Obituary of Danute Koltko

SVELNYS KOLTKO- Danute Terese Svelnys Koltko, age 95 of Ansonia, wife of the late Philip Koltko, died Sunday, June 23, 2013 peacefully at CT Hospice, Branford with her family by her side. Born in Russia of Lithuanian descent on April 11, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Leonardas and Agota Staugaitis Tulauskas. Mrs. Koltko immigrated to the US in 1948 and has since resided in Ansonia. She worked at the Shelton Shirt Factory, Ansonia Wire and Cable Co., Waterman Bic Co. of Seymour and as an aide and floor secretary at Griffin Hospital for 18 years, until her retirement in 1982. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Church of Ansonia where she belonged to the Ladies Guild and Knights of Lithuania. Mrs. Koltko was a member of the Griffin Hospital Heart Club and the Cancer Support Club, as well as the Ansonia and Shelton Senior Centers. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lillian Poehailos and her husband, Donald of Ansonia; son, Leonardas Svelnys and his wife, Carol of WA; cherished grandchildren, Peter (Mary) Poehailos of NC, Ronald (Maria) Poehailos, Prospect, James (Hella) Poehailos of PA, Leonardas (Sarah) Svelnys of Branford, Nicholas Svelnys of Derby and Christopher Svelnys of WA; great-grandchildren, Kelly, Amanda, Bianca, Erica, Alexander, and Jacob; as well as several nephews; step-children, Margaret Lombardi, Janice Mernitz and Philip Koltko, Jr.; and former daughter-in-law, Linda Greenhill. In addition to her husband of five years, she was predeceased by her first husband of 42 years, Kestutis Svelnys; her companion of 12 years, Michael Mangone; and two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Church, 199 North Main St., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
