Obituary of Clarence Phelps

PHELPS- Clarence E. Phelps, age 92, beloved husband of Sylvia E. Riggs Phelps of Oxford, died peacefully August 20, 2012 at the Bishop Wicke Health Care Center, Shelton. Born in Bridgeport on January 27, 1920, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Eva Clough Phelps. Mr. Phelps was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran of WWII and long time resident of Stratford before moving to Oxford 32 years ago. He worked as a sign painter for Sikorsky and then A&A signs of Bridgeport for over 40 years before his retirement. In retirement he remained active crafting handmade furniture. He enjoyed singing since he was a young man and used his talents in praise of the Lord. In addition to his wife of 69 years, he is survived by his devoted daughter, Deborah Matthews and her husband, Timothy of Oxford; a brother, Clinton Phelps and his wife, Avis of SC; cherished grandchildren, Eric Bondeson and his companion Jennifer of Waterbury, Amy Bondeson Boyce and her husband, Christopher of Newtown, Katy Bondeson Schneider and her husband, Douglas of Shelton and Ryan Bondeson of Oxford; great- grandsons, William and Jake Schneider of Shelton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Phelps was predeceased by a son-in-law, Earl William "Bill" Bondeson and a brother, David Phelps. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 1:00 PM, in the Beacon Hill Evangelical Free Church, 371 Old Zoar Road, Monroe with the Rev. Richard Flashman and the Rev. Harry Richardson officiating. Internment will be private.
