Obituary of Doreen Sisson
SISSON-Doreen Elizabeth Sisson, age 93 of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Earl Sisson, died peacefully in her home on March 5, 2012. Born in Cardiff, Wales, UK on November 26, 1918, she was the daughter of the late James Harvard and Elizabeth Brittain Rogers. Mrs. Sisson immigrated to Canada at an early age and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1948. She attended schools in Canada, being the Valedictorian of Sandwich Collegiate Institute, Ontario and obtained an Elementary Certificate. She was a graduate of McCallum Business Institute and studied mechanical drafting from 1942-43 at the Walkerville Vocational School. Mrs. Sisson graduated from the CT School of Banking in 1975 and began a long career with the former Mechanics and Farmers Savings Bank of Bridgeport. She started as an entry level teller and progressed through many titles including branch manager of the Stratford location, finally retiring as Vice President and Regional Manager in 1984. She was a resident of Stratford for many years before moving to Shelton 20 years ago, was a member of the American Banking Assoc. and the Red Cross. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, gardening, camping, hiking and bicycling. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Doreen Hertel of Marco Island, FL; grandchildren, Doreen (Art) Turnas of Oviedo, FL, Robert (Jackie) Chernesky of Glenn Ellyn, IL; 5 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Fred Rogers. Funeral services are private. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
