Obituary of Evelyn Moore

MOORE - Evelyn Thelma Moore, age 84, died July 1, 2011 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. Born in Ansonia on November 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Eva (Wanciak) Comcowich. A life-long Ansonia resident, she was a retired State employee, having worked as a clerk in the Records Office at Southern Connecticut State University. Mrs. Moore also worked at Hull Dye & Print Co. until its closing in 1980. She subsequently returned to school. She earned her license as an LPN, was certified as a Dental Technician, and received an A.S. degree from South Central Community College, achieving a 3.93 grade point average and an initiation into the Psi Beta Chapter of the National Honor Society there. In her lifetime Mrs. Moore had been a cheerleader for Ansonia High School, a Girl Scout Leader, and a union steward. She held additional course certifications in Basic Automotive Repair, Drafting, Electronics, Psychology, and Pharmacology. Mrs. Moore will be remembered as a devoted mother and a very creative individual who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, sewing, and gardening. She was an avid reader, fascinated particularly by British history, and she loved the music of the 40's, especially that of Frank Sinatra. During college football and basketball seasons she enthusiastically followed her favorite teams, the pride of which were the men and ladies b-ball Huskies! She leaves behind a son, David P. Moore, retired American Airlines Captain, and his wife Georgia, of Newtown, PA, and a son Jerel T. Moore of Ansonia; her granddaughters, Kirsten Moore of Philadelphia, PA and Kathryn Moore of Anchorage, AK; her brother, Thomas Comcowich and his wife Jean, of Huntington; her sister, Anna Mae Pertoso of Ansonia; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a son, John H. Moore, who lost his life in an automobile accident at the age of 16. Mrs. Moore's funeral services were private. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia was in care of arrangements. In her memory, friends are asked to donate to a charity of their choice.
