Obituary of Walter Melnyk

MELNYK-Walter Melnyk, age 94, beloved husband of Anna Rybacka Melnyk of Seymour, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Griffin Hospital. Born in Ansonia on March 8, 1917, he was the son of the late Michael and Julia Gerycz Melnyk. Mr. Melnyk worked for the former Blumenthal Co. and Farrel Co. as an expediter for many years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and its Men's Club; enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. as well as trips to the casinos and gardening and maintaining his home. He will be long remembered for his friendly personality and his outgoing nature of helping anybody in need. In addition to his wife of 34 years, he is survived by his devoted daughter, Marion Henderson and her husband, Greg of TX; and dear friends, Chester and Jennifer Lewinski of Ansonia, as well as many others. Mr. Melynk was predeceased by his first wife, Stella Biggin Melnyk; as well as three brothers. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett St., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby.
