Obituary of Marion Preston

PRESTON- Marion W. Preston, age 83 of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Monroe, CT and Long Island, NY, beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Preston, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Gladys Cornell Woolley. Mrs. Preston worked for the Philip Morris Co. and then worked as a floral designer for Allen's Green House of Little Neck, LI, for over 25 years, until her retirement. Together with her husband, she lived in Monroe, CT and spent winters in Stuart, FL for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo and mahjong, as well as crafting ornate dolls from pins and beads. She will be remembered for her green thumb and the beautiful plants and flowers that thrived in her care. She is survived by her devoted children, Laura (Walter) VanWallendael of Hobe Sound, FL, Richard (Kim) Wilson of Garden City, NY, William (Mary) Wilson of Garden City, NY, Michael (Ann) Preston of Newtown, CT and Patricia (Vincent) Stapleton of Stratford, CT; 11 cherished grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 25 years, she was predeceased by a brother, Charles H. Woolley and stepsons, Richard and Joseph Preston. Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 15, 2011, at 10:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Family and friends may call on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at 7:00 PM at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church located at 54 Nassau Blvd. in West Hempstead, N.Y.
