Obituary of John Binkowski

BINKOWSKI- John Carl Binkowski, Sr., age 91 beloved husband of Martha Ozinsky Binkowski of Plantsville, formerly of Derby, died November 10, 2010 at the Summit Health Care Center. Born in Derby on February 27, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Mary Grabowsky Binkowski. Mr. Binkowski was a U.S. Army Infantry Veteran of WWII; fighting in three invasions, including Normandy, France. He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church and served as the Representative for Branch 067 in the Ukrainian National Assoc. for many years. A Derby resident for many years; he worked as the owner and operator of an automotive service station and then in the laminating business until the time of his retirement. He will be long remembered for his sense of humor and good natured personality. Mr. Binkowski was often seen riding his bicycle throughout Derby and Orange, despite being in his 80's. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by a daughter, Joan Barnard and her husband, Timothy of Southington; sons, John Binkowski and his wife Mary of Bethany and Raymond Binkowski and his wife Margaret of Beacon Falls; brothers, Paul Binkowski, William Binkowski and his wife Moira, all of Derby, and a sister, Sr. Anne Binkowski of Stamford; a sister-in-law, Josephine Binkowski of Derby, as well as six cherished grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Julia and Helen Binkowski, Anna Petriw, and Mary Mudry; brothers, Msgr. George Binkowski and Peter Binkowski. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 9:15 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Parastas will be held at 6:30 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sts.
