Obituary of Brenda Vaphides

Brenda Vaphides, age 84, of Brooklyn, NY, beloved wife of the late Walter Edward Vaphides, entered into peaceful rest on June 7, 2024 at St. Vincents Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT with her family by her side.  Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 17, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Henrietta Walden Weitz.  Mrs. Vaphides was raised in Staten Island, NY, but lived most of her adult life in the borough of Brooklyn.  She was a home maker, excellent cook and enjoyed preparing her favorite family recipes for all to enjoy. A whiz at Scrabble, she was overly competitive with anyone brave enough to challenge her – sometimes even keeping score over multiple nights of play.    Mrs. Vaphides studied the Bible over 70 hours per month – for over 30 years!  Her passion for the Bible was immeasurable and evident as she taught Bible study for decades.  She is survived by her devoted children, Andrea Marshall and her husband, James of Monroe, Valerie Vaphides of Bangkok, Thailand, Alison Stuart and her husband, Riley of PA and Steven Tsardounis and his wife, Alina of FL; brother, Howard Weitz and his wife, Lisa of NJ; and cherished grandchildren, Tyler Stuart and his wife, Isabella; Heather, Aimee, Luna & Ellie Tsardounis, as well as Rose & Thomas Marshall.
