Obituary of Kathryn M. Spring

Kathryn Margaret Ryan Spring, age 65 of Ansonia, died peacefully on June 2, 2024 at the St. Raphael’s Campus of Yale New Haven Health, surrounded by her family.  Born in New Haven on July 10, 1958, she was the daughter of Carolyn Ann Otto Ryan Murhamer of Ansonia and the late Donald Patrick Ryan.  Ms. Spring was raised in West Haven, a graduate of West Haven High School and Gateway Community College of New Haven.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in addiction counseling from Southern New Hampshire University and followed her passion as a substance abuse counselor.  Ms. Spring counseled many clients at Crossroads, Inc. of New Haven, and was later employed as a counselor at the Recovery Network of Programs Inc. of Bridgeport, until the time of her illness.  A natural caregiver, Ms. Spring wholeheartedly supported her clients’ recovery in a variety of ways, but often focused on changing their behavioral patterns and treatment plans, to aid them in their successful recovery. A child of the 70’s, Ms. Spring never outgrew her love for music or classic rock, nor did she ever part with her impressive collection of vinyl records.  Be it Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Rolling Stones or the Who, she loved it all! Ms. Spring imparted her love for music to her children and all who surrounded her.  She was a voracious reader and was dedicated to her vocation, never losing faith in her clients- even when they had little faith in themselves.  Ms. Spring committed countless volunteer hours to the Oxford Special Olympics and faithfully supported her daughter in all her endeavors.  She will be long remembered for her gentle soul and her innate ability to perceive the needs of others.  In addition to her mother, she is survived by her devoted children, Kevin R. Spring and his wife, Paula of Cheshire and Leanne D. Spring of Ansonia; her cherished granddaughters, Karissa A. Spring and Kaitlin R. Spring, both of Cheshire; as well as several cousins and many friends.  The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Marci DiStefano Veeley for her compassionate care extended to Kathryn in her time of need.
