I just learnt of the passing of dear Jay Sexter in August 2024. My great sympathies to Jay's lovely family.
As a professor at Fordham since 1975, I knew and admired Jay for over 45 years, across Fordham, John Jay, Mercy,. Touro, and beyond. He had the gift to bring out the best in others. In 1985, I introduced Jay to JJC professor Bob Panzarella, who was immediately impressed, and told Jay that he was on the search committee for a new Provost. Jay applied, and 2 months later the search committee said they would have to kill Jay if they did not hire him because he understood JJC so well. Jay served as Provost many years with President Gerald Lynch, until his next great adventure as the first male and Jewish President of Mercy College. Then there was Nevada, Harlem, and so much more. My gifted colleague Lee Klein created a new Wikipedia entry of Jay's remarkable career: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Sexter Thank you Jay for touching thousands of lives, including mine.
