Obituary of Janina Kuna

Janina Kuna, aged 72, the cherished wife of Wallace “Wally” B. Kuna from Shelton, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024, surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home. Born on January 13, 1951, in Skawa, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Jozef and Eleonora Krzysztof Latawiec. Mrs. Kuna immigrated to the United States in 1983, initially working as a sales associate for Cramers, formally of New Haven. Later, she collaborated with her husband in the administration of their family business, Kuna’s Roofing & Siding. Subsequently, she owned and operated the Polonez Polish Deli in Shelton for 18 years until her retirement. Mrs. Kuna, renowned for her culinary skills, was a social personality, transforming the Polonez Deli into a popular community hub where customers became friends. Her Polish specialty dishes will be remembered by many. Family-oriented and a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews, she played a significant role in their upbringing. After retiring, she relished extensive travel and numerous cruises to the Caribbean and South America with her favorite travel companion, her husband. Survived by her husband of 40 years, she is also remembered by her sisters, Stanislawa Basiaga and Maria Hradecka, and brother, Jan (Teresa) Latawiec, all of Poland. She is further survived by sister-in-law Maria Kuna of Derby, brothers-in-law Richard Kuna of NV and Adam (Aneta) Kuna of Oxford, along with several cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wieslaw Latawiec, and brother-in-law Christopher Kuna.
