Obituary of Anna Mayko

MAYKO- Anna B. Mayko, age 94 of Ansonia, a lifelong resident of Ansonia and widow of Michael Mayko, died peacefully Easter Sunday morning at the West River Health Care Center, Milford following a long illness. Born in Ansonia on February 16, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Yakim (John) and Yovdokia (Dorothy) Yurkew Baluk. Mrs. Mayko was a lifelong resident of Ansonia, a member of the Ansonia Senior Center and communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and working in the garment industry in Derby and Ansonia. She loved watching TV game shows, caring for her pet beagle "Pug" and entertaining her grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted children, Patricia E. Santacroce and her husband, Anthony of Hamden and Michael P. Mayko, a Connecticut Post reporter and his wife, Frances of Milford; cherished grandchildren, Ruth Ann Cutrone and her husband, Matthew of Hamden, Rachel Anne Osterlind of NYC; Sara A. Mayko and Michael F. Mayko, both of Milford; several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews; a sister-in-law, Anna Prokopchik of Ansonia and her dear friend of 36 years, Jean Buglione of Monroe, with whom she shared love and devotion to their grandchildren, Sara and Michael. In addition to her husband, Anna was predeceased by brothers, John, Michael and Michael Nicholas Baluk, and sisters, Rose Boylan and Julia Patulak. The family wishes to thank Dr. Flora Zarcu-Power, a Milford Physician whose treatment, compassion and availability are traits to which all medical professionals should striver; the employees of Masonicare Hospice, particularly Pam Miller, who provided spiritual and physical comfort in Anna's final three weeks; Jane DellaVolpe and the staff at West River Health Care for the time they spent in caring for Anna over the past four years; and most of all to Lois Fleming, an Ansonia neighbor who, as fate would have it, became her roommate at West River. Lois' kindly presence and comedic personality brought daily smiles to Anna's face. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 9:15 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, derby. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Parastas Service will be held at 6:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts.
