Born in Stanyslawiw, Ukraine on December 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Petro and Olena Czobotar Zinycz. Mr. Zinych emigrated to the United States in May 1949 and was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Walter had many interests and hobbies. From his early years he loved participating in the Ukrainian Scouting Organization, Plast. He was a proud member of the Khmelnychenky Plast Fraternity. He was also an active member and officer of the Ukrainian American Veterans in New Haven. Walter loved taking his family on many memorable ski vacations and many other fun trips.
