Obituary of Martin R. Diaz Jr.

Martin R. Diaz, 70, loving partner and companion of over 30 years to Margaret Bizewski of Seymour, died on August 5, 2023, at Griffin Hospital. He was born in Bayamone, Puerto Rico on October 8, 1952, a son of the late Martin Diaz Sr. and Maria Rodriguez.

Mr. Diaz proudly served in the United States Army for over 12 years, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Multinational Forces and Observers Medal, among other commendations. Following his honorable discharge in 1986, he became a chef at several local restaurants until the time of his retirement. 

In addition to his companion, Margaret, he leaves his daughters; Linnette, Annette and Jeannette Diaz; step-sons, Robert Bizewski and his wife, Lita May, Donald Bizewski and his wife, Melissa, and Shawn Bizewski; grandchildren, Jayden and Amarilyze; step-grandchildren, Robert Jr. (Jenna), Corey (Vanessa), Krysta, Amanda (James), Brooke (William), Nicholas (Jackie); step-great-grandchildren, Piper, Aydin, Dani, Arya and also baby Nakoa “on the way.” He also leaves his former daughters-in-law, Tammy and Michele, as well as his best friend, Raymond “Yogi” Velasquez.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  A memorial service celebrating Martin’s life and honoring his military service will be held at 6:00 pm.
