Obituary of Madeline Silva

Madeline Silva, age 68 of New Haven, formerly of Ansonia, died peacefully on April 25, 2023 at the CT Hospice, Branford, surrounded by her family.  Born in Derby on December 26, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Ethel Little Gatison.  Ms. Silva was raised in Ansonia and attended Ansonia public schools.  She was a longtime employee of the Bio-Med Corporation of Guilford, where she assembled ventilators and other medical devices, until the time of her retirement.  She enjoyed sewing and was a member of “SWANA” (Sisters With A New Attitude).  Her fun-loving personality and smile endeared her to many.  Above all things, she will be long remembered for her special love for her grandchildren and family.  She is survived by her devoted children; Howard Sweet, Jr. and his wife, Angela of New Britain, Timothy Sweet of Waterbury, Angela Silva of New Haven and Michael Sweet and his wife, Jennifer of North Haven; her siblings, Jesse Elmore and his wife, Renee of CA, Valerie Green Bostick and her husband, William of Waterbury, Denise Hill of NC, Deborah Elmore of West Haven, Kim Gatison of New Haven, Henry Gatison and his wife, Jo-ann of New Haven and Yvonne Anderson of New Haven; cherished grandchildren, Tanaiah Sweet, Mayangelis Sweet, Anthony Sweet, Mariah Wardlaw, Leila Sweet, Sophia Sweet, Kara Sweet, Mia Sweet and Zhamyah Taylor.  Ms. Silva is also survived by her former spouse, Anthony Silva of FL; her longtime friend, Willis Thigpen of New Haven; as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Elmore.  Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, prior to the service.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
