Obituary of James Lukowski

James Lukowski, age 76, beloved husband of Gabriele M. Bertram Lukowski, died March 18, 2023, at the West Haven Veterans Administration Medical Center.  Born in Dickson City, PA on September 27, 1946, he was the son of the late Edward and Victoria Yazdzik Lukowski.  Mr. Lukowski was raised in Bridgeport and was a 1964 graduate of Bullard Havens Vocational Technical High School.  Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Petty Officer, SWF 3 (Steel Worker Fabricator, 3rd Class). Mr. Lukowski served in the 31st Naval Construction Battalion (SeaBees), Pacific Fleet and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War.  Following his military service, he worked for over 40 years as a self-employed, residential carpentry contractor. A Seymour resident since 1989, Mr. Lukowski was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the David S. Miles Post 174, American Legion, and  enjoyed many Caribbean cruises.  He was an avid sportscar enthusiast, owning several cars through the years, including a Porsche Cayman 718 and a BMW Z4.  Mr. Lukowski was an active member of the CT National Guard, State Military Department, Funeral Honors Team, where he provided Military Honors for countless veterans, for over 15 years.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Denise Harrington and her husband, John of Bethlehem and Michele Lukowski of Seymour; a stepson, Keith Gagner and his wife, Cheri of Durham; a brother, Gerald Lukowski of Middlebury; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by sisters, Joan Roche and Arlene Kurtz; and brothers, Robert, Thomas and Edward Lukowski.  Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 9:00 AM, from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at the Good Shepherd Church of St. Nicholas Parish, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour.  Military Honors will be accorded directly following Mass.  Interment will be in the CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, PO Box 40726, Nashville, TN 37204, www.garysinisefoundation.org/donate.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
