Obituary of Richard Ernest Viens
Richard “Dick” Ernest Viens, age 83, beloved husband of Jean Fortune Viens of Huntington, died peacefully on February 24, 2023, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Montpelier, VT on February 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Leopold “Paul” and Gertrude Chouinard Viens. Mr. Viens was raised on his family’s 500 acre farm in Waitsfield, VT and was a graduate of Waitsfield High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. Together with his spouse, they moved from Vermont to Connecticut in 1960 and have made Huntington their home since 1964. Mr. Viens was the owner and operator of the Suburban Water Pump Company, where he sold and serviced residential water pumps throughout the greater Shelton area for 43 years, until the time of his retirement in 2011. True to his Vermont upbringing, Mr. Viens was the ultimate outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling well into his senior years. He loved Vermont with a passion and enjoyed many family trips to his home in the mountains, located on his ancestral land. He will be long remembered as a devoted husband and father, as well as being the best “Pop” any grandson could hope for. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his cherished daughter, Kelly Scanlon and her husband, Kevin of Shelton; his three dear grandsons, Ryan J. Scanlon, Brett T. Scanlon and Collin P. Scanlon, all of Shelton; a sister, Pauline Bombard of Barre, VT; brothers, David Viens and his wife Kathy of Watertown, NY and Michael Viens and his wife Kathy of Colchester, VT. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard and Peter Viens. Funeral services and interment in Vermont will be private. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia is in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
