Obituary of Genevieve Marie Stordy
Genevieve “Jean” Marie Stordy, age 78 of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late James J. Stordy, died peacefully at home on December 29, 2015. Born in Derby on May 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Stella Zalenski Zygmunt. Mrs. Stordy was a graduate of Ansonia High School class of 1954 and worked as a secretary for the Ansonia Board of Education for over 20 years, retiring in 2009. Following her retirement, she worked as an operator for the Ansonia-Derby and Executive Answering Services. In her younger years, Mrs. Stordy was an avid bowler and tournament winner, participating in leagues at Ansmour Lanes and Valley Bowl. She was an active volunteer during the annual St. Joseph Church Picnic at Warsaw Park and a member of the St. Joseph Choir. She loved the Ansonia Chargers and was a dedicated fan of the NY Mets. Mrs. Stordy was a member of the Ansonia Senior Center and participated in many trips to the casinos. She is survived by her devoted children, Dianne M. Stordy of Ansonia and James J. (Lisa) Stordy of SC; a sister, Estelle (Edward) Sharkey of Ansonia; cherished grandsons, Timothy and Matthew Stordy of Oxford; a beloved companion, Lou Nikel of Shelton; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett Street, Ansonia. Interment will directly follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby.
