Obituary of Walter Zinych

Walter Zinych, age 93, beloved husband of Ulana Musij Zinych of Bethany, died peacefully on September 9, 2023, in the comfort of his home.  Born in Stanyslawiw, Ukraine on December 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Petro and Olena Czobotar Zinycz.  Mr. Zinych emigrated to the United States in May 1949 and was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War.  He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Korean War Service Award. One of his proudest moments was receiving his U.S. Citizenship while serving in French Morocco.  Following his military service, Mr. Zinych graduated from the University of New Haven in 1962 earning a Bachelor’s Degree and then attended the Stern School of Business of New York University, graduating in 1964, earning a Master of Business Administration.  He worked as a Financial Manager for the Timex Corporation of Middlebury, for over 30 years, until the time of his retirement in 1992.

Walter had many interests and hobbies.  From his early years he loved participating in the Ukrainian Scouting Organization, Plast.  He was a proud member of the Khmelnychenky Plast Fraternity.   He was also an active member and officer of the Ukrainian American Veterans in New Haven.  Walter loved taking his family on many memorable ski vacations and many other fun trips.  He was always excited to watch his boys play baseball and soccer.  Simply stated, he was such a good man - funny, intelligent, caring, always interested in what others had to say, and very elegant.  Nothing made him happier than spending quality time with his family and being an amazing husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his beloved wife of 56 years, he is survived by his devoted sons, Mark Zinych and his wife Zina, and Walter Zinych and his wife Tania, all of PA; a brother, Jaroslaw Zinycz and his wife Orysia, of FL; cherished grandchildren, Andrea Zinych and Daniel, Juliana and Matthew Zinych, all of PA; as well as nieces and nephews from the Zinycz, Mandicz, Bystrianyk, Centore and Dziubina families.
