Obituary of John Merancy
MERANCY- John E. Merancy, age 73, beloved husband of Vivian Bodak Merancy of Woodbridge, died August 15, 2009 in the Hospital of St. Raphael. Born in Derby on December 16, 1935, he was the son of the late Edgar J. and Mary Pelesh Merancy. Mr. Merancy was a graduate of Ansonia High School and New Haven College. He worked for many years as a Marketing Manager for Seal Inc., formerly of Naugatuck, before owning and operating his own business, Bluebird Inc. where he worked until retirement. Mr. Merancy was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a lifelong member of Three Saints Orthodox Church. He was instrumental in the acquisition and development of Three Saints Park in Bethany and was a member of FROC, as well as the National Convention Chairman in 1965. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed caring for his home; he will be long remembered for his jovial spirit and sense of humor. In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by a devoted sister, Dorothy M. Scrobko and her husband, James of Glastonbury; an aunt, Sophie Pelesh of Woodbridge; nephews, John and Robert Bodak; a niece, Christine Mazzotta and many cousins. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at 9:15 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM in the Three Saints Russian Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
