Obituary of Herman Antrum

Herman Antrum, age 81, of Ansonia, died peacefully on August 7, 2019 at the Hewitt Health and Rehab Center, Shelton, surrounded by his family.  Born in Darlington, SC on June 25, 1938, he was the son of the late Lucius and Pearlie “Betty” Bailey Antrum.  Mr. Antrum was a longtime resident of Ansonia and a 1956 graduate of Ansonia High School.  He worked as a lathe operator and machinist for the Farrel Company for 30 years and was then employed at Sikorsky for 25 years where he worked as a machinist until his retirement in 2017.  An advocate for his coworkers, Mr. Antrum served as a Union Steward and was an active member of the Teamsters Union Local 1150 for numerous years.  His passion for helping others drove him to serve as the 5^th Ward Alderman for the City of Ansonia, as well as a patient and inspiring coach for Ansonia Little League and Biddy Basketball.  A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was an avid NY Giants and Yankees fan. In his later years, Mr. Antrum enjoyed playing the daily numbers,  jaunts to the casinos and valued the time he spent with his family, especially being with his grandchildren of whom he was so proud.  He will be long remembered for his friendly demeanor and his favorite motto “One day at a time”.  He is survived by his devoted children, Gerard Antrum of Ansonia, Maurice (Carol) Antrum of Stratford, Sherri Antrum-Perry of Ansonia, Terrence Antrum of Vernon and Glenn (Audra) Antrum of Bristol; a sister, Bessie (Willie) Boyd of New Haven;  cherished grandchildren, Joshua Antrum, Jalen Antrum, Jayce Antrum, Christopher Antrum and Matthew Antrum; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers, Harvey and Burnis Antrum.  Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 12, 2019, at 10:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, prior to the service.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
