Obituary of Helen Prohorik

Helen (Budnik) Prohorik, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2019, at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, New Milford.  Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Severin and Anna (Yelenovsky) Budnik. Mrs. Prohorik graduated from Bullard Havens Technical School, Bridgeport and worked as an assembler for many years for the Bassett and Uniroyal companies, until the time of her retirement.  Remembered as an avid reader, animal lover, kind hearted compassionate person with true sincerity in her actions; Mrs. Prohorik traveled through Europe and Russia and crocheted and fashioned countless heirlooms for her family. She is survived by her devoted children, Paula Smart of New Milford, Philip Prohorik of Ansonia, God-daughter Dr. Cynthia Chernecky of GA; grandchildren, Karyn Tarutis of West Hartland, Jonathan, Tarutis of New Milford, Carrie Ann Scherer of PA; great-grandson; Dakota and great-granddaughter, her shining star, Braelyn; as well as several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Prohorik was predeceased by her sister Olga Chernecky-McGuinness and brother Joseph Budnik. Funeral Services will be celebrated at Three Saints Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Avenue, Ansonia on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10AM.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.  Friends and family can call directly at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, prior to the service.
